prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Hood Canal Bridge.

The Hood Canal Bridge connects the Olympic Peninsula with the Kitsap Peninsula. It crosses the Hood Canal. The Hood Canal is a glacier fiord in this area. The bridge is the third longest concrete floating bridge in the world. A center section floats open to let tall ships through and the atomic submarines from their base up the Hood Canal.

This picture is from the Kitsap Peninsula or the west end of the bridge.

This picture is from the east side of the Hood Canal.

The section between the towers open. Jackie and I have waited in line many times while a sub went through. One time we were first in line and had a great view of the sub.

This is a professional picture of a sub passing through. They are big boats!
